The Champagne Valley walking club is an enthusiastic group of ” young at heart” locals residing in the Central Drakensberg who do a social walk every Tuesday. Walks are generally easy to moderate and last between 3 to 6 hours and everyone is welcome. Some interesting areas, off the normal beaten track are visited and local knowledge is a must for guests.
August 2014 walks.
Meet at the Oak’s supermarket at 8.00 am. We will do a walk to Cleo’s pool, the location of 2 burial sites dating back to the 1800’s. The chambers were excavated in 1930 and the remains removed to Wits University for examination and found to be the remains of Koi/Nguni people an adult male and an adult female and a child. Buried in an upright position the burial chambers with stone lids can still be seen today.
